What you need to know about Mihály Figula, Wine Producer of the Year 2022
Mihály Figula from the Balatonfüred-Csopaki wine region was awarded the title of “Wine Producer of the Year in Hungary 2022”, the most prestigious award that can be won by Hungarian winemakers. The winemaker is presented by the Hungarian Wine Academy below.
Mihály Figula’s great-grandfather, István Tolnay, was one of the most prestigious wine owners of the 19th century. Fueled by his love for grapes and wine, the Figula Winery has become one of the best-known Hungarian wineries with hard work, sacrifices and great diligence. The winery was founded and built by the father, Mihály Figula, who was also chosen as the Wine Producer of the Year in 2000, the same year that his son, Misi, obtained his diploma in viticulture and oenology. After his father died suddenly, the then twenty-year-old suddenly became the head of the family: he had to take over the management of the estate overnight. With a huge responsibility on their shoulders and a lot of work, the family managed to maintain and develop the thriving winery.
