Agrometeorology: the soil is sufficiently moist, ideal for the development of rapeseed and autumn ears of corn
The soil is mostly sufficiently moist, rapeseed and autumn ears can also develop under ideal conditions, HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
As it was written, in the past few days, most of the country has been dry, with undisturbed sunny weather in many places. The amount of precipitation in the last ten days exceeds 5 millimeters only in the west, southwest and northeast, but a significant part of the country did not receive any rain at all. The soil layer near the surface has dried a lot in recent days, but it still contains enough moisture. The layer between 20 and 50 centimeters is almost saturated, with the exception of the southeastern landscapes, but in the layer deeper than half a meter, there is still a lot of moisture missing in many places in the eastern two-thirds of the country. From the middle of last week, the peak temperature was typically around 15 degrees Celsius, slightly above it, and then from Tuesday there were already maximums above 20 degrees. During the increasingly long, clear and windless nights, the air cooled down strongly, especially in the eastern part of the country, the mornings were frosty in many places, there were frosts at a height of 2 meters, while the temperature dropped to around 5 degrees in the cloudier western areas.
The often rainy weather and muddy soil in the first half of the month hampered the autumn tillage and the sowing of cereals in many places
Since then, however, the soil has dried up a lot, and the mostly dry, sunny weather has created favorable conditions. Canola is developed and in good condition, and the conditions are also favorable for the early development of autumn cereals.
No major changes in the weather are expected in the next 8-10 days either
Although the tendency to fog is increasing and from Monday the fog that forms at night may persist even longer in some places, elsewhere you can expect mostly sunny weather. The peak temperature is likely to be between 15 and 20 degrees at first, and then a drop of a few degrees is likely next week. At night, the air can only cool below freezing point in places with frostbite, typically the mornings will be frost-free.
