Romanians’ GDP lags behind Hungarian growth
In Romania, the economy expanded by 5.3 percent in the first half of this year, both in terms of raw and seasonally and calendar-adjusted values compared to the same period last year, the Romanian national statistical institute announced on Wednesday.
In the second quarter, the Romanian gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 5.3 percent on an annual basis, both in raw and seasonally and calendar-adjusted data. Meanwhile, the Hungarian economy expanded by 6.5 percent in the second quarter
Compared to the previous quarter, GDP increased by 2.1 percent. Economic growth slowed down in the second quarter, as in the first quarter the expansion was still 5.1 percent compared to the last quarter of last year. The quarterly expansion according to the annual comparison also slowed down, as between January and March a GDP expansion of 6.4 percent was recorded compared to the first three months of last year, while in the second quarter the annual expansion was 5.3 percent.
