A good brandy is a real economic value
Hungarian brandy has achieved success for itself, and it is no coincidence that it is considered the number one Hungarian brandy, said Minister of Agriculture István Nagy at the award ceremony of the 13th Quintessence Pálinka and Pálinka Competition in Debrecen.
The minister emphasized that the event is the largest schnapps competition in the Carpathian Basin. The 100-point judging system used in the competition gives a wide and deep opportunity to distinguish between brandies and distillates and to select the best samples. Commercial breweries, contract breweries, contract brewers and master chefs, private chefs entered the competition with high-quality brandies and distillates again this year, worthily representing everything that the name of the competition, the word Quintessence, means – the best, the essence, the net of something, he added.
István Nagy also talked about the fact that brandy brewing has a long history in our country
Today, we have reached quality pálinkas, the revival of regional pálinkas, and the new multi-colored and multi-flavored pálinka culture. A good pálinka is not only a noble drink, but also a real economic value. Breweries provide work and a living, and in the meantime they develop, looking for more and more innovative solutions to ensure quality. Moreover, for us Hungarians, pálinka means much more than a mere economic factor. It is part of our culture, our national identity, just as grappa is for the Italians, whiskey for the Scots or ouzo for the Greeks, the head of the ministry pointed out.
