Nearly half of the adult Hungarian population suffers from varicose veins
Varicose veins are caused by dilation and swelling of the veins, most often in the legs. Although they are often seen as an aesthetic issue, they can also pose a serious health risk, especially in the warmer months. However, with proper care and a few simple practices, unpleasant symptoms can be significantly alleviated.
The formation of varicose veins is caused by the weakening of the walls of venous vessels and lymphatic vessels. This can often be a hereditary tendency, so those whose ancestors had the problem should place great emphasis on prevention. As people age, the elasticity of the vessel walls naturally decreases in both men and women, which increases the risk of developing varicose veins. The disease can occur regardless of gender and in many cases is the combined result of hormones (such as pregnancy or menopause) and/or other metabolic disorders.
The established, imperfect blood and lymph flow is further complicated by heavy or suddenly increased body weight, lifting heavy weights, static work and a sedentary lifestyle. As a result of the summer heat, the already dilated veins expand further, resulting in an increase in varicose veins and an increase in the volume of blood on the skin surface, which can lead to increased fluid loss, especially during sweating. Thus, to protect the blood vessels, it is recommended to drink 2.5-3 liters of water per day.
