The expansion of biofuels is pushing up food prices
Europe and United States are encouraging the expansion of alternative fuels with laws in order to reduce dependence on oil. However, the plant-based fuel production can cause a drastic rise in food prices.
According to the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard, bio-fuels have to appear increasingly in fuels to reduce the dependence from fossil fuels and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In Europe, this approach can also be observed. Until 2020 fuel products have to contain a 10 percent biofuel share. (energiaoldal.hu)
