European regulation on organic products
The demand for organic products in the EU is increasing significantly, therefore the European Commission created a new draft on organic production and on the labeling of the products.
In 2012, the consumers spent almost 21 million euros on organic products, which is 1.2 million higher than the 2011 amount. Currently more than 186 thousand organic farms are registered in Europe, that are farming on 9.6 million hectares, which is 5.4 percent of the total agricultural area – the bruxinfo.hu wrote.
