From 2025, a new EU regulation will affect wetland farmers
From 2025, the conditionality rule system of the Common Agricultural Policy will be expanded with a new Good Agricultural and Environmental Status regulation, HMKÁ 2, which serves to protect wetlands and peat bogs, thereby preserving water retention and the organic carbon content of the soil.
The EU regulations allowed the member states to introduce this provision only from 2025 with a well-founded reason, and Hungary took advantage of this opportunity. The purpose of this information sheet is to show what types of land fall under the HMKÁ 2 regulation, which will be introduced mandatorily from January 1, 2025 on the basis of EU law, and what land use rules must be followed by producers with such land. Important information for the farmers concerned is that the preliminary HMKÁ 2 overlay will be available on the MePAR (Agricultural Parcel Identification System) and MeKIR (Agricultural and Environmental Information System) pages at the latest at the beginning of November, and it will also appear on the soon-to-be-opened AKG submission interface. It is expected that during November, the Hungarian Treasury will also send information to the farmers affected based on the preliminary coverage on the mobilGAZDA application and/or the Customer Portal.
