Hypermarket
There are 170 hypermarkets in Hungary and between December 2013 and November 2014 they sold more than HUF 400 billion worth of grocery products in the 90 categories audited by Nielsen. This constitutes a 28-percent market share – 1 percentage point less than in the base period. From the Top 10 products these were selling above the average: cheese – 33 percent, mineral water and coffee – 30-30 percent, dog food – 36 percent. Customers like hypermarkets because of their size and large selection of products. They are ideal for promotions and our last survey revealed: 33 percent of shoppers think the best promotions are implemented in hypermarkets; 28 percent said they would choose supermarkets to go shopping due to the same reason and 22 percent would pick discount stores. n
