The Hungarian Food Bank Association helped the needy with HUF 10 billion worth of food in 2022
In 2022, a total of 239,000 needy people benefited from the near-expiry or defective products that the Hungarian Food Bank Association collected from stores and manufacturers. In 2022, we increased our food rescue capacities by one and a half times in order to keep up with the growing needs of the needy. Relying on the help of our volunteers, we want to reach even more donations in 2023.
The Hungarian Food Bank Association was established by some good friends in August 2005 with the aim of collecting food that was no longer needed in the trade and delivering it to people in need. Our Association primarily searches for products that are close to their expiration date, with defective packaging, as well as products left over from promotions and holiday offers, so that they end up on the tables of those in need instead of the waste incinerator. By saving food, we can also prevent the environmental burden associated with the destruction of surpluses, and the energy invested in the production of products is not wasted.
Over the years, the Food Bank has grown into one of the most influential charitable organizations in the country. In eighteen years, we saved almost 100 million kilograms of food and delivered it to people in need – all this from the very beginning on a non-profit basis, operating from donations, relying predominantly on the work of volunteers and the cooperation of charitable organizations.
