Climate change must be coupled with cost-effective water management
Climate change is a test for European agriculture, and requires modern, cost-effective water management, water use, and the breeding and spreading of drought-tolerant crops – the Minister of Agriculture told M1 channel on Thursday.
Fazekas Sándor said that the EU’s common agricultural policy should also take into account that agriculture and the food industry are large water-consuming activities. For example, 10 hectoliters of water is needed to produce 1 liter milk and 18 hectoliters for a kilogramme of bread. Therefore, water management is also a question of competitiveness, he added. (MTI)
